A Report On The English-Chinese Translation Of China And The Global Politics Of Regionalization

This thesis uses Chinese and the Global Politics of Regionalization excerpts as the source material for Chinese translation.It aims to disseminate the research results of “Chinese regional politics” obtained by foreign scholars,discuss the textual characteristics and research status,and summarize translation difficulties and solutions.It is challenging but of great academic research value for the translator to professionally and accurately express the information in the text,so that Chinese scholars and the public can correctly understand its content.This translation practice is conducted under the guidance of Professor Li Changshuan's “Comprehension,Expression and Adaption” principle.Based on the typical problems of “comprehension”,“expression” and “adaptation” encountered in the text and relevant theories of other scholars,the author analyzes cases of the translation material from three aspects in depth,and proposes effective strategies and methods.At the comprehensive level,the main problem is that some phrases are difficult to understand,including professional terms and some obscure phrases.The author solves these problems by using two methods: depending on the context or data access.At the level of expression,the main problems are long sentences,static structures,and “translationese”.The author solves these problems by splitting and reorganizes long sentences,converting static structures into dynamic ones,and avoiding “translationese”.At the level of adaption,the problems encountered are redundant or ambiguous information in the original text,and political and historical issues that need to be discussed.The author solves these problems by adding and deleting information and flexible translation.Through this translation task,the author concludes that a correct understanding of the original text is a prerequisite.At the same time,translators should treat professional terminology rigorously and consult more materials in order to make the translation text rational and justified.While translating,translators are required to have a sense of “domestication”,take care of the feelings of the target readers,and get closer to Chinese expression habits,so that the translation becomes readable.
