Combined with the world food crisis,environmental and financial and social exchanges all generate deep concerns in world community.The year is special with the emergence of COVID‐19 in late 2019 and early 2020.The relationship between people and wild foods is once again at the center of the world’s attention.With this background,the source text is excerpted from chapters 19 to 21 of The Oxford Handbook of Food,Politics and Society,published by Oxford University Press in2015.It contains 25042 words and the target text contains 46201 words.This report is based on an English-Chinese translation practice.The source text belongs to the informative text,paying heeding to the information and stressing the accuracy and readability.With the guidance of Professor Li Changshuan’s“Comprehension,Expression,and Adaptation” framework,the report summarizes the difficulties encountered in translating from three aspects of comprehension,expression and adaptation;the cases selected from the source text are analyzed and corresponding solutions adopted in practice are presented.The difficulties in comprehension are solved by looking up dictionaries,parallel texts and searching online to accurately understand words of the original text,and by splitting structures of long and difficult sentences.The difficulties in expression are analyzed by literal translation with annotation,the extension of words meaning,free translation,and amplification or omission to make an accurate and clear expression.The difficulties in adaptation are solved by flexibly using four-character words and discarding the original form to enhance the readability.The report shows that the use of translation methods above helps to improve the quality of translated texts by giving clearer contents and better readability guided by the CEA framework.
