As a woodwind instrument with a history of more than 100 years,the saxophone is quite a young member of the Western classical instrument family.However,in this short period of 100 years or more,a large number of composers have been attracted by its unique tones,and have created a wealth of excellent musical works for it.The title suite “ Tableaux de Provence ”by French composer Paule Maurice is one of them.Today,this composition is still lively on the world music stage.This thesis focuses on the “Tableaux de Provence” by French female composer Paule Maurice.Basing on the knowledge of the composer's biography and the background of the work,as well as the experience of learning saxophone for many years,the author will elaborate the necessary performance skills and how to grasp the style of the work while playing it.This thesis consists of three parts: the introduction,the main body,and the conclusion.The main body,which is the most important part,will be divided into three chapters.The first chapter will introduce the biography of the composer and the background of the work.The second chapter will interpret the title suite music that first appeared in saxophone works.This piece includes five vivid movements,and each of them has an independent title.The author will describe the five movements respectively in view of the cultural and geographical features of Provence.In the third chapter,the author will analyze musical form structure,music style,and performance skills in five movements based on years of practice and performance experience of his own.Meanwhile,the author will give advisable methods of practice,and predict problems that may be encountered in cooperation with piano,and discuss the corresponding solutions.
