The Translation Of Illustrative Information In The Academic Text

This report is based on the translation of chapter 1 and chapter 2 of The Ethics of Vaccination.The source text analyzes the ethical roots of the current vaccination problems and puts forward correspondent solutions,which provides a reference for the research in related fields.The source text is an academic text,which covers relevant knowledge in the fields of medicine,ethics and public policy.In the process of this translation practice,the translator finds that long sentences containing lots of illustrative information are difficult to handle.Therefore the translation of illustrative information is the focus of this report.One is the translation of words in illustrative information,including verbs,adverbs and adjectives.To solve this problem,the following methods will be used including extension,addition and conversion.The second is the translation of illustrative parentheses,including phrases,clauses and nested illustrative parentheses.When solving such problem,the translator should break the structure of the original sentence,clarify the logical relationship of the sentence in accordance with the context,and reconstruct its pattern.Through this translation practice,the translator has a deeper understanding of the academic text,hoping the strategies and skills summarized in this report can provide some references for the future translation of such text.
