This translation report is based on the translation study of the prologue to the chapter 5 of Magic for Liars. The book told a series of confusing events happening after the heroine Ivy investigating a murder in a magic school. This text belongs to the magic novel texts in literature.Although the type is novel, there are many translation phenomena that can be studied, especially the literariness embodied by the text itself. On the premise of ensuring the accuracy of the translation, the author combined the context of the text to study and reproduce the literariness of the text. The literariness of the text is mainly manifested in two aspects: self-reference and indirect reference.Self-reference is mainly reflected in circular sentences and inverted sentences, while indirect reference is mainly reflected in rhetorics such as metaphor, alliteration and transferred epithet. In order to better reproduce the literariness of the original text in translation, the author adopted the literal translation strategy in the processing of circular sentences and inverted sentences so as to ensure the accuracy of the translation and consistency of main points between the orginal text and translation,as well as reproduce literariness of the original test. But when analyzing other rhetorics like metaphor, alliteration and transferred epithet, they should be based on the specific situation for choosing literal or free translation.By writing this translation report, the author hopes to provide some references for those translators who will study such texts and finish subsequent work in the future.
