This thesis adopts the form of translation practice report. The Little White Bird is written by James Matthew Barrie,a British writer. The author chooses chapters 11 to 17 as the translation task, hoping to improve her translation ability through this task.In the task of translation, the author of this paper finds that to be successful in translating novels, not only appropriate translation skills and methods but also appropriate theoretical guidance are needed,so as to improve the quality of translation. This practical report focuses on the application of non-linguistic context in the Chinese translation of The Little White Bird.Literary works reflect life through images, and context dependence is strong. As a children’s book,The Little White Bird not only features vivid images, pleasant language, clear themes and plot twists, but also contains a lot of psychological description, detailed description and dialogues. The dialogues in the book take place at different times, places and on different occasions. Therefore,in the process of translation, different translation strategies and methods should be adopted according to the dialogues in different contexts,so that the translation can meet the needs of readers. The original language is light, full of the special emotional appeal of British children’s life, but it is difficult to deal with in the translation process, which brings some difficulties to the author. Therefore, guided by the theory of non-linguistic context, this practice report discusses the skills and strategies of translating The Little White Bird into Chinese from the perspectives of situational knowledge, background knowledge and paralinguistic knowledge. The paper is divided into five chapters. The first chapter is Literature Review, which mainly discusses the research trends of context theory at home and abroad. The second chapter is A Brief Introduction to the Translation Project, including Project Background and Project Significance.Chapter three is Processes of the Translation Project, including Translation Preparation,Translation Process and Proofreading. The fourth chapter is Cases Study, focusing on the non-linguistic context, including Situational Knowledge,Background Knowledge and Paralinguistic Knowledge. The fifth chapter is Summary, which summarizes the experience learned by the translator in this translation practice.
