A Report On The E-C Translation Of Gunning For Greatness(Excerpts)

This report is based on the E-C translation of Gunning for Greatness,which was written by Mesut Oezil and published in 2018.In this text,the writer introduces his experience about how he was trained as a professional player successfully and help Team Germany win the World Cup in 2014.Two chapters of this book were chosen to be translated including the introduction of the writer's experience in Real Madrid and the experience about winning the World Cup in 2014.There are 94 elliptical sentences in the text,which exist in a specific context.Due to the lack of elements,translators need to supplement the elements and meanings that omitted by the author.This makes it difficult for the translator to translate,and requires the translator to have corresponding understanding ability and appropriate expression ability.In order to solve the problem of elliptical sentences and ensure the accuracy and readability of the translation,the author uses three translation methods: addition,combination and synthesis.According to the characteristics of the text and the difficulties of translation,Newmark's Communicative Translation Theory is used as a guide,so that the translation can be easily accepted and understood by the readers.The purpose of this report is to explore the translation methods of elliptical sentences and providereference for the translation of elliptical sentences.
