Research On The Facilitating Effect Of Speech Translation Software Under Cognitive Load Theory

With the rapid development of AI,AI translation shows an edge over human interpreters.Though AI cannot replace human interpreters at this stage,with its fast development,it will arguably continue to shift and challenge the traditional way of interpreting.This paper is an empirical study using Speech Translation Software(IFlytek)as an example to explore the facilitating effect it has on CFAU student interpreters in E-C consecutive interpreting practice under Cognitive Load Theory.Students are divided into two groups with the experimental group using IFlytek and the control group not using it.The material used is specified upon climate change and financial field.Both groups are graded in light of a composite metrics broken down to professionalism,loyalty,presentation,language quality and overall quality.Through the experiment results,it can be seen that IFlytek has certain auxiliary role in aiding student interpreters in E-C consecutive interpreting.Students using IFlytek were found to have a significant higher rate in accuracy and completeness in their interpretation.However,the prerequisite of using IFlytek is that it can correctly recognize the original speech.If IFlytek mistakenly recognize the original speech,or it cannot correctly distinguish stops with end of sentences,it poses a negative impact on student interpreters.
