The Dilemma And Solutions Of English Teaching In Rural Middle Schools In The Multimedia Era

In the multimedia era,traditional teaching concepts are completely overturned.With the progress of science and technology era,multimedia has also entered into rural teaching and become the leading force of rural education.This study mainly investigates the current situation of multimedia assisted English teaching in three rural middle schools in Zhangpu,namely,Changchun Middle School,Xianan Middle School and No.2 Middle School.In this study,25 English teachers and 239 junior middle school students in these three rural junior middle schools were investigated,and their questionnaires were filled out to learn about the basic equipment and multimedia classes of the schools.Interviews were conducted with these junior middle school English teachers,and students were also randomly interviewed to obtain their attitudes,opinions and suggestions on multimedia assisted teaching in English classes.In addition,the writer also observed the teaching activities of junior middle school English teachers,observed the implementation of multimedia teaching in rural junior middle school English teachers and students' reactions in the classroom to obtain the real situation of teaching in English classes which is in rural middle school and multimedia assisted,and studied the following issues:(1)What are the configurations of multimedia equipment in three rural middle schools in Zhangpu?(2)What are the effects and problems of using multimedia assisted instruction in these three rural middle schools?(3)What are the suggestions to put forward to solve the existing problems?The results of the investigation showed that the three middle schools in Zhangpu rural area are equipped with multimedia teaching equipment,but it is only Class Access to ICTs(a system of internet computer technology of middle schools popular in China).And the teaching aided by multimedia is welcomed by teachers and students for its proper pictures and texts,vivid images and vivid memories,more convenient interaction between teachers and students,and convenient mastery of knowledge to stimulatestudents' interest in English learning as well as strong visual sense.However,the research results show that there are still many dilemmas in the rural areas.First of all,because there is no input from new teachers for a long time,most of the old teachers' teaching ideas,teaching methods,ability to edit multimedia courseware and technical ability to use multimedia courseware cannot keep pace with the times.Many rural English teachers are not very proficient in using the Class Access to ICTs.In addition,rural English teachers have many classes and heavy teaching tasks,which makes it impossible for teachers to spend more time to study textbooks and prepare multimedia teaching courseware suitable for rural junior middle school children.Moreover,due to the difference between urban and rural areas,as well as the influence of regional protection or intellectual property rights protection or performance ranking among schools,the sharing of urban and rural teaching resources cannot be achieved,and there is no school teaching resource pool established in rural schools,which makes it difficult for teachers in rural middle schools to obtain resources about making teaching courseware.More than half of the teachers simply jump to use the tecahing courseware in the cd-rom that comes with the textbook.In view of the above dilemmas,this study proposes some solutions or outlets of them: Education authorities and schools should strengthen the training of the rural teachers.Promote the more reasonable integration of multimedia technology and English teaching.Provide teachers with a database of teaching materials that advance with the times.Promote the real sharing of multimedia teaching materials between urban and rural areas.Each grade share out the work and cooperate with one another to produce multimedia teaching materials so as to reduce the workload and reduce working time to improve work efficiency.And timely update the multimedia facilities.
