Although the English teaching in the basic education stage of our country has made great progress,there are still some problems in English writing in senior high schools in the rural area.Based on Krashen's input hypothesis and Swain's output hypothesis,and guided by the theory of forgetting curve,93 students from two senior high school classes in Nan' an,Fujian Province participated in this research.The students were tested and interviewed to explore the following questions:(1)What is the students' attitude to the application of recitation?(2)Whether recitation can help senior high school students in the rural area to improve their usage of vocabulary and grammar as well as reduce the Chinglish in their writing?(3)What effect may recitation have on English writing teaching in senior high school in the rural area?At the beginning,a questionnaire and pre-test were conducted,and the result showed that there was no significant difference between the two classes.The author assigned recitation tasks to students in the EC during the experiment.Two vocabulary tests were held to test the effect of recitation on students' vocabulary learning.Through the post-test,it was found that the students in the EC made more progress in English writing than those in the control class,especially in grammar and vocabulary usage.Therefore,this study has the following findings:(1)Recitation can win popularity among the senior high school students in the rural area.(2)Recitation can improve students' writing in vocabulary and grammar,and reduce the negative transfer of Chinese.(3)Recitation also brings students a sense of achievement and plays a positive role in cultivating their self-confidence.The findings of this study also carry implications for English writing teaching.(1)While exploring new theories and methods of foreign language writing teaching,we should make the best use of recitation.(2)Teachers should have detailed plans and give timely feedback to help them build up self-confidence.(3)The materials chosen for recitation should not be too difficult or too easy.Combine recitation with other teaching methods to achieve better teaching goals.
