English teaching in the compulsory education stage is aimed at cultivating students’ comprehensive abilities of language use and developing students’ four basic language skills: listening,speaking,reading and writing.Among them,English writing,as one of the important ways of language output,is the best way to reflect students’ language skills.Through writing practice,students can comprehensively apply the vocabulary,phrases,grammatical knowledge and sentence expressions they have learned in order to improve their language competence.However,the current situation of junior high school students’ English writing is worrying.Many students turn pale at the only mention of writing.Their problems are mainly manifested in poor vocabulary,lack of grammar knowledge,confused language logic and frequent occurrence of Chinglish.In teaching,teachers often ignore writing teaching and training,and only pay attention to the results of writing,which finally makes writing teaching fall into a dilemma.Recitation,as one of the traditional teaching methods in China,has been widely used since ancient times and has been widely applied in various subjects.Its effectiveness has been studied and verified by many experts at home and abroad.However,at present,most of the research objects mainly involve college students,and there are few researches on English writing teaching for junior high school students.Therefore,the author will learn from the previous research and combine with author’s own teaching practice to discuss the impact of recitation on junior high school students’ English writing.Based on the input hypothesis of Krashen(1985)and the output hypothesis of Swain(1995),this study first discusses the definition of recitation in this study and the function of recitation summarized by other scholars.Then,the author designs the teaching experiment,and applies the recitation strategy in the English writing teaching of junior high school students.Through the comparative experiment,this study further explores the effect of recitation on the English writing of junior high school students,and verifies the following two questions: 1.which aspects are recitation input helpful for in improving the English writing of junior high school students? 2.Can recitation improve the English writing ability of junior high school students on the whole?This study takes two parallel classes of Ankang Junior High School of Shaanxi Province as the research objects,which are divided into experimental group and control group.The teaching experiment is conducted with the methods of comparative experiment,questionnaire survey and interview,which last for 18 weeks.Before the experiment,the author conducts pre-writing tests and a questionnaire survey on the two classes at the same time,aiming to know the writing level of two classes,and to know about the students’ attitudes towards writing and the existing problems.During the experiment,the author gives recitation training and guidance to the experimental group,while the control group was not required to recitation.In the last week of the experiment,the author conducts a post-writing test for both classes,aiming to verify whether recitation contributes to the improvement of students’ writing ability.At the same time,the author also implements a detailed and in-depth analysis of the two groups of students’ compositions from the aspects of vocabulary use,grammar use and sentence pattern expression,in order to verify the specific influence of recitation in these three aspects.The experiment results show that recitation does help to improve the writing ability of junior middle school students.Through reciting,students can accumulate a large number of words,phrases and sentence patterns,master grammar knowledge,enhance language sense,and make it more accurate and diversified in writing.In addition,by reciting,students can deeply understand the language materials,appreciate the charm of the language and perceive the logic of the language,which makes their writing more logical and beautiful.At the same time,this paper also provides a new idea for the teaching of writing in junior high school English,which means that when trying modern English teaching methods for English writing,we should not abandon the advantages of our traditional teaching methods,and give fully and effectively use of the traditional method of recitation,so as to promote the good development of English writing teaching in junior high school.
