A Study On The Painting Of BIAN Shoumin's Luyan Subject

BIAN Shoumin was a calligrapher and painter in the middle of Qing Dynasty,BIAN Shoumin travels between Huai'an and Yangzhou,relying on the Beijing-Hangzhou Canal,north to Qilu and Kyoto,south to Lianghu and Suhang,and strolls among Qilu culture,Yanzhao culture and Suhang culture.He is a knowledgeable and versatile scholar painter.His painting history records that he is skilled in writing.He is good at painting flowers,birds,vegetables and fruits.Especially,he is famous for drawing geese in the Yangtze River,Huaihe River and the Canal area.He is known as the "Bian geese".From his geese sculpture,brush and ink techniques,composition and poems on painting,we can learn that on the basis of inheriting the traditional geese sculpture,Bian also promoted new developments.His artistic concept advocates the free value of life and the publicity of self-individuality.BIAN Shoumin is good at painting from life.He knots in ditch reeds.The wild geese and reeds,sand banks and weeds in his works form an artistic atmosphere of desolation and cold.He uses a variety of composition methods,using water,ink and color to blend with each other,to draw all kinds of natural features of wild geese,and to express his thoughts on life and society,reality and ideals.
