A Study On Shen Shoumin

Shen Shoumin(1607-1675) who also called "Mei sheng" or "Geng yan", was born in Xuan Cheng. His posthumous title was "Zhen wen". Shen Shoumin was an outstanding adherent poet of the late Ming and early Qing Dynasty. He has two literature collections, "Gu Shan Yi Ji" and "Xian Dao Lu". This paper composed by five chapters, the purpose of this paper was to understand Shen Shoumin and study his works.The first chapter is about the research of Shen Shoumin’s family background and life experiences, in order to better understand the social context of his state of mind. Shen Shoumin was born in the aristocratic family of a government official. He was very clever in childhood. He wanted to participate the imperial examinations at the young age, but unfortunately, he did not pass the imperial examinations. Soon after, he was recommended to the capital to report Memorial to the Throne, but his suggestion was not accepted. So he gave up participating in political activities, and he returned to his hometown of teaching. During his lifetime, he believed the Confucianism and opposed to Buddhism. After the demise of the Ming Dynasty, Shen Shoumin always adhered to the national integrity. He was an adherents and seclusion in the mountains. He has not been an official in the Qing Dynasty.The second chapter is about the research of Shen Shoumin’s friends, he has more than one hundred friends, such as teachers, portage, outstanding talent of Wan Jiang, friends of the communities, government officials.The third chapter wants to analyze the content of Shen Shoumin’ poems and to learn the artistic features of his poems. Shen Shoumin has more than two hundred poems, the subject matter of his poetry is very extensive, such as presented and responded with a poem, expression his emotion, describe the history and so on. He liked writing historical allusion in his poems. He used these historical stories to mock the bad phenomenon and to remind people to learn from. He stressed that the poetry should reflect social reality and expressed the true feelings.The fourth chapter is to study Shen Shoumin’s articles, from the content of the articles, the characteristics of the creation, article creation embodied perspective and so on. Shen Shoumin’s articles can be divided into four categories from the contents: care about politics, disseminate the thought of filial piety, the communication between with friends as well as the imperial examination system. There is a clear time-phased in Shen Shoumin’s articles. Shen Shoumin stressed the importance of tour, thinking that writing should pay more attention to the reality.The fifth chapter discusses the status of Shen Shoumin. Shen Shoumin inherited the tradition of Xuan Cheng elegant on literary creation. And he was the leader of the Ming Dynasty in Xuan Cheng, more is to train a large number of talented people in Xuan Cheng.
