Peng Yanjiao’s Late Poetry Research

In Peng Yanjiao’s poems,the realistic contexts in different periods of modern China from 1938 to 2008 could be fully presented.Regarding the artistic personalities,this research mainly investigates his pursuits in writing and poetic features in his late poems from 1979 to 2008.The introduction first reviews and rationalizes the current positive judgments on his poems chronologically as well as justifies the rationales for my topic selection,points out the shortcomings in current studies and illustrates the basic research concept and framework.Chapter one investigates the intellectual pursuits shown in Peng’s late poems.The meaning of “the thinking of lyrics” in his poems is explored through the review on the poetic concept “intellectual” and intellectual writing in new poetic history.Also,the reasons for emphasis on “intellectual” will be further examined combined with the poet’s experience,the interaction with contemporary poets and the influence from weeds-like modern spirit.In chapter two,the deep thinking in life and history of Peng’ poems is depicted in the analysis of his late important long poems The Opening of Chaos and Sheng Sheng: the Unity of Multiple Parts.Chapter three illuminates the poet’s particularity on image selections and keen observation by listing the core images such as ocean,air and light in his late poems.In chapter four,starting from the artistic strategies used in Peng’s late poems,our research examines the implications of his language features,the various delivering methods as well as his focus on poetic writing.All in all,it could be concluded that Peng’s late poems have shifted from traditional realism to modern intellectualism,from the mono-dimensional delivering method to multi-dimensional delivering methods,from simple image selections to the images that could present existence dilemma and dreams of human beings.The Peng’s late poems show a figure who is ageing but struggling with life,knowledgeable in life,generous to life,and humanistic for life.
