Peng Yanjiao's poetry bears strong nature of painting. With an interdisciplinary approach and within the field of comparative literature, this thesis tries to probe the relationship between Peng Yanjiao's poetry and his painting.The thesis is composed of three chapters. The introduction part begins with the disputes over the similarity and neterogeny between poetry and painting, proceeds to introduce the current studies on Peng's poetry and then points out the significance of studying Peng Yanjiao and his works from the perspective of painting.Chapter 1 Peng Yanjiao's connection with paintingTaking Peng's poetic creation as a whole into consideration, the author mainly summarizes the permeation of painting elements and techniques in Peng's concrete poems and poems concerning painting. Deep-rooted reasons for Peng's connection with painting are analyzed afterwards from the aspects of personal favors and family influence, associations with artists, the influence of Chinese and Western view on art and literature and of other modern poets.Chapter2 the poem and painting in Peng's sonnet sequenceThis chapter mainly studies Peng's conscious introducing into his sonnet sequence of painting elements and techniques such as blank settings, image materialization, colored parables, transformation of beauty into charm, visual processing of artistic effect and so on. The poet constructs radiant pictures with vivid language to express the similar aesthetic experience provoked by music, painting and dancing. He also employs the image beauty of painting to link up different kinds of art, to visualize all those aesthetic imaginations and feelings experienced through different sense organs. In a word, the poet endeavors to break the restraints of medium on art.Chapter 3 the beauty of thinking and painting elementsThis part focuses on the employment of painting elements in Peng's poetry. Such elements as color, light, line and painting structure, combined with the uniqueness of poetic language, are internalized into a more powerful mode of presentation. The poet's noble spirits and profound philosophical thinking schema are thus constructed by painting techniques.Through the conscious employment of painting element and technique, Peng Yanjiao expressed his meditation over life ontology value, thus achieving artistic beauty through the balance between poetry logos and percept.
