Explicitation Strategy In Word Translation From The Perspective Of Communicative Translation

This report is based on the translation of Spy Chiefs,a book edited by Christopher Moran and Mark Stout.Spy Chiefs tells the life and deeds of spy chiefs in various countries,and analyzes the role of spy chiefs in various historical events.The first volume of Spy Chiefs is about American spy chiefs and British spy chiefs,and the second volume is about some other famous spy chiefs and some discussion of intelligence agency.The translator selects the third and fourth chapters in Spy Chiefs volume1,which mainly talk about atomic general Groves and Allen Dulles respectively,as the material of translation practice.Based on the translation of the third and fourth chapters of Spy Chiefs,the translator discusses the application of explicitation strategies in word translation from the perspective of communicative translation theory.The source text selected here is an informative type,and communicative translation theory is well suited in translation as the theoretical foundation.Communicative translation theory combines well with explicitation strategy,which can highlight the information of the text and enhance the readability of the target text,that is,to translate the exact contextual meaning of the source text so that the content and language of target text are easy for readers to accept and understand.In the E-C translation of Spy Chiefs,the translator uses annotation,concretization,extension and addition to deal with the fuzzy words and finds that appropriate explicitation is conducive to improving the readability and acceptability of the target text from the perspective of communicative translation,which also proves that communicative translation theory has a strong explanatory power for explicitation.This translation practice report consists of six chapters.The first chapter is introduction,which introduces the research object and key points of this report.The second chapter is the translation project introduction and the description of the whole task process,including pre-translation preparation,translation process,and post-translation review.The third chapter is the theoretical framework,which discusses the explicitation strategy from the perspective of communicative translation theory.The fourth chapter is the case analysis.It analyzes the application of the explicitation strategy from the perspective of communicative translation with specific examples.The final chapter is a summary of this translation practice report.
