This English-Chinese translation practice report selects the first short story Runaway as the source text, which is excerpted from Alice Munro's collection of short stories Runaway. This report mainly discusses the translation of the repetitive words, verbal phrases and short sentences in dialogues in Runaway(excerpt).Based on the analysis of the language features of the original text, the report focuses on the translation of three aspects: repetitive words, verbal phrases and short sentences. Therefore, the translator adopts the methods of addition and conversion to handle repetitive words, the method of free translation to deal with verbal phrases, the methods of combination and omission to solve the short sentences in dialogues. As for the numerous repetitive words and phrases in the text, the translator mainly adopts the methods of adding adjectives and conversion to accurately convey the connotative meaning in the original text.In terms of the verbal phrases, the translator applies the method of domestication, translating them into Chinese idioms and four-character structures, which lifts the level of the literariness of the translation and makes the translation understood easily. The short sentences in dialogues in the original text appear frequently, the translator adopts the combination and omission to translate. As to the broken sentences, combination can avoid cumbersome meanings and make the translated version coherent. As for the unnecessary personal pronouns, the translator uses omission to make the language more authentic and in line with the Chinese expressions. The report shows that the use of various translation methods can achieve equivalence to some extent between the source language and the target language. But in the process of translation, the translator finds it difficult to simultaneously make the target text acceptable for the readers and reproduce the style of the source text. Therefore, the translation needs to be improved in some ways.At the same time, the translator hopes that this report can offer references to the scholars who study Munro' s works.
