For Tibetan modern literature, lots of people write poems, but few people evaluate and comment on the works. When a good literary work comes along, people pay attention to it and evaluate it.However,no one pays attention to the general literary works. As a writing group, studies of Tibetan monks’ poems is unprecedented. In this context, this thesis studies the topic of "Tibetan monks’ free verse".The first part of the thesis expounds the emergence of free verse in western countries, and the background of its practice, theory and aesthetics;a brief history of the introduction of free verse to China;and lastly its development in Tibetan areas. The second part divides the development of monk’s free verse into three stages. The poetry of the 1990s is prosified in the form, and the logic between sentences focuses on cause and effect, without emotional connections. The content is based on the initial stage of searching for oneself. The poetry of the 2000s tended to be in vernacular.Beyond the techniques of exaggeration and praise, the pursuit of the original expression of emotion is valued. The poetry of the 2010s returned to the love of traditional culture. The third part studies the characteristics of monk’s free verse, that is,the defamiliarization technique;the construction of intention;the integration of traditional culture into new poetry;the expression of love, etc. The fourth part discusses the poems of Tibetan monk poet, dge ’dun lhun grub.
