Night Tang and Wu Dynasty are an era full of monks who can write poems. According to the number of the writer, there emerged almost one hundred poets including GuanXiu. QiJi, XiuMu, XuZhong, ShangYan. According to the number of the poems, there are 2800 poems which were written by monks and compiled into 46 volumes, and there are up to 2000 poems during this period .Furthermore, the quality of the monk's poems has been improved tremendously, and get rid of the Buddhism's flavor, similar to the poems written by scholars. However, the most regrettable thing is that the literary monks are neglected by the scholars and the research of the poems during this period is also neglected. The literature research of this period, especially that of the literary monks and monk's poems are dead silent as compared to the flourishing literary research of early Tang, prosperous Tang and middle Tang, this is extremely abnormal phenomenon. Although in regard to the quantity and quality of whole poems, the literary monks can't be put into the same ranks which the scholars represent, this period is full of literary monks and poerns which have been influential, and this phenomenon is worthy of being discussed and explored in itself. On this basis, the paper aims at the weak study of Tang poem- and chooses the community angles, emphasizes the historical and cultural background of the poems during this period, explores the distinction the characteristic and the creative style of the community. At last, the paper also puts its emphasis on their status and influence in the history of Chinese literature.The full text totally is divided into six chapters: The author explores the historical and current problems of this field in the preface, and explains the ranges the content and method of this research. The social culture background of this community is studied in Chapter 1. The policies restricted Buddhism and chaos caused by war didn't let Buddhism collapse, it stimulated the development of Buddhism, and particularly Zen Buddhism was prosperous very much. Otherwise, the popularization of Tang poems, the development of Buddhism's literature and factor of economy, politics, culture, geography made the community quickly rising. Chapter 2, we divide the community into ten parts, and reveal the formation and characteristic of eachcommunity one by one. Chapter 3, we explore the characteristic of organization and spirit. Many literary monks like to company with scholar-bureaucrat. In fact, they pursue the fame and wealth by association. On the other hand, this kind of association is also One of the motive of their composition. Chapter 4, we explain the verse characteristic of the literary monks. Their artistic was extremely abundant, include the verse works and the verse theories. They obtain very big achievement about the verse's topic contents and the variety of the poem. They like to write the standard form of poetry, and also like to write the old style of poetry and Yue-fu poem. As for topic of its verse, there are five aspects including typical life of monks, special landscape, fine and delicate fun of thing, deep philosophy and strong affection from reality. As for its style, we will discuss from three aspects including the flavor of Buddhism, the strange characteristic and the cold style. Chapter 5, we will evaluate justly the status and influence of this community in the Chinese literary history, Chinese Buddhism's history and zen Buddhism's history.
