Lead-in part is the first step of teaching. In English class, effective Lead-in can fully stimulate students' learning interests and motivation, arouse the enthusiasm and initiative of students. Therefore, students can focus their attention and finish the learning tasks smoothly. However,in the real teaching situation,Lead-in is not fully used, and the effects of it doesn't be brought into play completely.Combined with the theory and practical experience of English teaching, this paper makes an in-depth study and discussion on the Lead-in of English class in junior high school. This paper focuses on the following three issues:(1)What attitude do the teachers and students have towards classroom Lead-in?(2)What Lead-in methods do teachers commonly use and what Lead-in methods do students like in junior high school English classes?(3)What are the effects of English classroom Lead-in in junior high school? In this study,12 English teachers and 290 students from Fucun Middle School in Tianjin were selected as the subjects. The research methods were classroom observation, questionnaire and interview.Firstly, nine teachers from three grades of junior middle school were observed in 36 classes,a preliminary understanding of the current situation that the Lead-in methods commonly used by teachers in junior middle school English teachers could be obtained;secondly,a questionnaire survey was conducted among 12 English teachers and 290 students from three grades to understand their opinions on English class Lead-in;then,in order to make up for the deficiency of the questionnaire survey, this study used the interview.Three Englishteachers and six students were interviewed to further understand the implementation of English class Lead-in.Finally,the author used SPSS(Statistical Product and Service Solutions),AMOS and Excel to sort out, count and analyze the data. The results shows that, there's a big difference between Lead-in methods commonly used by teachers and Lead-in methods students like.Besides, both students and teachers affirm the importance of Lead-in,and both of them consider that teachers' carefully designed Lead-in has positive effects to students' learning. At the same time, the author also finds some problems in Lead-in,such as some teachers seldom use Lead-in;teachers lack systematic theoretical knowledge of Lead-in;the use of Lead-in methods lacks diversity and so on.Finally, the author puts forward the following suggestions according to the survey results of this paper: Teachers should improve their awareness of the use of Lead-in,change traditional teaching concept and teachers' roles, keep learning on relative teaching knowledge, prepare lessons carefully, design different methods of Lead-in according to different types of class,so that students can truly become the center of the class.
