During the current English reading teaching in senior high school,most teachers adopt the traditional English reading teaching mode and pay too much attention to the learning of vocabularies and grammar so that the content of English reading materials is neglected.At the same time,the cultivation of students' thinking ability is also ignored,which leads to the cultivation of students' reading ability out of the context of materials and practical application.The English curriculum standard for senior high school(2017)emphasized the quality of students' language ability,cultural awareness,thinking ability and learning ability,and puts forward specific requirements for senior high school students' English reading ability.If we want to improve the students' English reading ability,especially the deep reading ability,we should also implement it in the classroom teaching.Questioning,as a necessary means of classroom teaching,can effectively stimulate students to think actively in teaching.Based on the positive roles of“question chain” teaching mode in senior high school English reading,it is more and more necessary to use the “question chain” teaching mode in English reading teaching.This paper aims to study the influence of the “question chain” teaching mode on students' reading achievements and higher order thinking ability.The research subjects are Class 89 and Class 85 in senior one of Chuangqi high school in Xinzhou City.In the one semester experiment,the researcher considered the Class 85 as the experimental class and applied the “Question Chain” Teaching model,while the Class89 is considered as the control class which applied the traditional method.The paper adopted the following instruments: the pre-test and post-test,questionnaire,and interview.In addition,the paper used Excel 2007 and SPSS 25.0 to analyze the collected data.This paper attempts to study the influence of “question chain” teaching mode on senior high school students' English reading achievements.In order to accurately judge whether “question chain” teaching mode can improve students' English reading achievements,the paper used the tests to reflect the changes of English reading achievements before and after the experiment in the experimental class and control class.The influence of “question chain” teaching mode on students' higher order thinking ability is mainly reflected through questionnaires and interviews.The results showed that the teaching mode of “question chain” can improve senior high school students' English reading achievement and develop their higher order thinking ability.Due to the limitations of the actual operating environment andresearch level,this study still needs to be improved.
