A new round of curriculum reform has begun,and scholars still attach more and more importance to English reading teaching.With the rise of the concept of deep learning,there is a great deal of contention in the research of English reading teaching.However,in order to improve students' English reading ability,especially their deep reading ability,some excellent teaching methods should also be implemented in classroom teaching.Questions as a tool of classroom teaching will be used,which not only can active atmosphere in class,but also stimulate students to actively think in teaching activities.In addition,a chain of thought-provoking questions can also promote students in-depth understanding of the text.Therefore,it is more and more important to use problem chain in English reading teaching.Based on the effect of the problem chain teaching model in class,the author proposes two research hypotheses :(1)the problem chain teaching model can promote students' thinking engagement in English reading teaching;(2)problem chain teaching model can promote students' deep reading comprehension ability.In order to verify the above,the author selected students from Class 225(experimental class)and Class 227(control class)of No.3 middle school of Hunyuan as the research objects,and used questionnaires,test papers and interviews as research tools.During the experiment,questionnaires were used to verify whether the model has a positive impact on students' thinking engagement in English reading teaching.At the same time,the pre-test and post-test were used in two classes to study whether this mode would promote students' deep reading comprehension ability.In addition,interviews were used to explore students' real feelings about using the teaching model of problemchain.After quantitative analysis of questionnaires and test papers and qualitative analysis of interviews,the author obtained the following research results: the problem chain teaching model can promote students' thinking engagement in English reading teaching.At the same time,the problem chain teaching model is also conducive to improving students' deep reading comprehension ability.In addition,the problem-chain teaching model can promote students' interest in reading and obtain a sense of achievement.Although there are some inevitable shortcomings in this experimental study,the author still hopes that this study can provide some useful insights for teachers on how to promote creative thinking in class and how to foster students' deep reading ability.
