Translation Of Culture-loaded Words From The Perspective Of Skopos Theory

The translator participated in website translation for X Health Management Center.Written by the staff in the Center,the materials in the website are used for the publicity of the Center and the promotion of traditional Chinese medicine.In this translation project,the biggest difficulty for the translator is the analysis and expression of culture-loaded words in the fields of traditional Chinese medicine,philosophy and literature.The translator makes detailed analysis of the key and difficult point.Therefore,the report conducts the discussion on the translation of culture-loaded words in traditional Chinese medical texts.Skopos theory,which covers skopos rule,coherence rule and fidelity rule,runs through the whole translation process.First of all,skopos rule provides theoretical foundation for the definition and classification of culture-loaded words.Taking textual features and uses into consideration,the translator classifies the relevant words into conceptual ones and behavioral ones.The former can be divided into basic traditional Chinese medicine terms and principles of medical science,and the later includes therapeutic approaches and pathological reactions.Secondly,the coherence rule and fidelity rule of the skopos theory guide the choices for translation methods.The translator proposes practical translation methods,which include literal translation,liberal translation,transliteration and annotation.The translator also hopes to provide some inspirations for the translation of culture-loaded words in traditional Chinese medical texts.
