| This report is a Chinese to English translation report,whose source text is the commentary of Hunanese: Exhibition of Hunan History and Culture.Chinese culture is constantly going out with the Belt and Road Initiative,and museums,as one of the vital ways of external publicity,play an increasingly prominent and significant role for us to approach the history and savor the culture,and for us to bear the incumbent responsibility for culture exchanges.However,most of the Chinese museum commentaries are short of corresponding English versions,which exert great cultural barriers on foreign tourists who come to visit the museums in China.At present,in terms of quantity and quality,domestic research on the translation of museum commentaries is limited.In the light of Text Typology Theory proposed by Reiss,the author of the report,based on the commentary of Hunanese: Exhibition of Hunan History and Culture,analyzes the language features of museum commentaries,and compars them with the characteristics of foreign museum commentaries.In this report,the author summarizes the difficulties encountered in the process of translation from lexical to syntactic levels,respectively,exploring some useful translation methods adopted in translation practice,such as literal translation,literal translation plus explanation,transliteration plus explanation and omission at the lexical level as well as addition and conversion at the syntactic level.The research shows that in order to obtain a better English version of museum commentaries,the translator should adopt various translation methods in line with different text types,like informative text and operative text,under the guidance of Text Typology Theory,so that the English version of Hunan Museum commentaries can not only embody the characteristics of local history and culture in Hunan,but also meet the requirements of the target readers. |
