A Report On Translation Of The Excerpts From The Mistake

The report is based on English-Chinese translation from The Mistake.The author chooses it as the translation material.The plot of this novel is simple and understandable with concise and popular language,which mainly develops the plots in the manner of dialogues,thus,the translation practice report primarily explores how to use translation techniques and some flexible ways to reproduce characters’ personalities,images and speech styles by selecting a large number of dialogues in the source text.Dialogue is one of the important parts in fiction,which can straightforward reveal a character’s personality,ideological status and the implied meanings behind it so that the reader can understand the plots of fiction and then gain the clues of story development.As for the faithful reproduction of characters’ language in fiction,the author finds that the most difficult thing is the tones of characters in dialogue translation process.It is necessary to grasp and understand characters’ personality,identity and the relationship between them in order to translate the various tones of the original text.The report is mainly guided by the three “agreements” of dialogue translation,namely: in agreement with the temperament of characters,the status of characters in the original and with the environment of characters concerned,combining with the features of original dialogues in fiction with a large number of dialogues as the main research object to reproduce the images of characters faithfully by the usage of modal particles,adverbs,special sentence patterns,punctuation marks and so on.In this dialogue translation practice,the author mainly adopts corresponding translation strategies to reproduce the tones of the original dialogue as much as possible,and summarizes some effective ways to solve it,expecting to find more appropriate oral dialogue expression in the future,so as to provide a new perspective for solving the problems of dialogue translation.
