Research On Part-time Jobs Of Taijian Officials In Song Dynasty

Having Part-time jobs means mandarins hold additional posts beyond their own work.It's very general that officials hold part-jobs in Song Dynasty,from prime minister to magistrate.In the Song Dynasty,officials in Taijian system also have part-time jobs.Among them,there were according to the customs of the previous dynasties,and independently created by the rulers to adapt to the situation and needs.The types of part-time jobs of Taijian officials in song dynasty were different in diffrernt periods.During the northern song dynasty,the Taijian officials held ceremonial posts such as ceremonial officer and honor guard officer;posts in charge of select and examine of central and local officals;diplomatic duties;posts for compile regulations;inspection officer;executive of Sinongsi and the Imperial College.In the southern song dynasty,Taijian officers mainly participated in the classics colloquium.In order to understand the specific performance of censors and ancient advisors who had part-time jobs in-depth,this thesis based on the case study of three representative censors and advisors.They are Jiachangchao in Renzong dynasty,Caique in Shenzong dynasty,and Zhupisun in Lizong dynasty.Through case studies,we can further understand the development trend of their part time jobs from northern song dynasty to southern song dynasty,and the the impact of personal and political situation at that time.Compared with the Tang Dynasty when Taijian officials held the post of temporary dispatch,the posts held by Taijian in Song Dynasty were all within the scope of the central official system and became more stable,which to some extent reflected the improvement of central official system in the Song Dynasty.Compared with the part-time job types of Taijian officials in the northern song dynasty,the part-time job types of Taijian officials in the southern song dynasty were less and showed the characteristics of unitary,which was closely related to the game between the imperial power and the subordinate power in the southern song dynasty.In terms of the impact,Taijian officials in the song dynasty had positive significance in improving their own economic and political treatment,exercising their own administrate ability and improving the administrative operation efficiency of related institutions by holding other posts in addition to their duties.However,its drawbacks are obvious.As the importantsupervisory institution in central government,the independence of the Taijian organization is the precondition for them to fulfil their functions and powers.Therefore,Taijian officials hold posts in other administrations will hinder the performance of their functions and have a negative impact on the central supervision work.
