Language is an important tool for people’s communication,and it can promote mutual connection among people in terms of emotion and behavior,So that people can use language to enhance group identity.According to the sociolinguistic theory,language attitude and language use are closely related,and the attitude evaluation will affect people’s use of language.This thesis mainly investigates the actual situation and correlation of language use and language attitude among college students in Laos.It is divided into six parts.The first part,introduction,introduces the research background,research status,research purpose and research methods.The second part is a survey of the language use of college students in Laos.It was found that the respondents used their mother tongue at home to their elders very frequently.They have different language uses for different family members.In the school environment,the respondents were based on different school environment and use of different languages.Lao language is used more and more frequently at school to communicate with teachers and classmates,from class to class,in personal contacts,in public places and at work,and the respondents still speak Lao.However,in the frequency of Internet use,they use foreign languages more frequently.The third part is a survey of the language attitudes of college students in Laos.It is found that the language attitudes of the respondents are biased towards their mother tongue.At the same time,the survey respondents held a positive attitude towards foreign language learning,showing their language attitude towards foreign languages.In terms of cognitive factors,Lao university students have a high recognition of the mother tongue as a Lao cultural symbol,but they have a low evaluation of the practicality,functionality and value of the mother tongue.In terms of emotional factors,Lao university students strongly agree with the goodness and intimacy of their mother tongue,showing that Lao language is the basis of their important emotions.The fourth part is the analysis of the correlation between language attitudes and language use of college students in Laos.It is found that language use and language attitude affect each other,but the only factor that affects each other is not between the two,and there are other factors that affect it.Therefore,it was found that there was a correlation between gender,age and language attitudes of college students in Laos.The fifth part is the discussion and suggestions on the language use and language attitude of Lao university students.It puts forward language education to improve learning motivation,clarify government responsibility and school responsibility,develop language and cultural undertakings,adhere to Lao and common languages,and promote standardized official languages To handle the relationship between Lao and ethnic languages.The conclusion of the sixth part summarizes the results and findings of this research,the enlightenment brought by the research,the shortcomings of the research and the future prospects.
