The main function of nouns is reference, the main function of adjectives is description, and the transformation of nouns into adjectives is a process from concrete to abstract. This paper uses the research methods of combining synchronic description with diachronic investigation, induction and deduction, traditional exegetics and modern linguistic theory to collect relevant journals and papers from academic websites such as the Chinese KnowledgeNet,and to search the corpus of the National Language Commission, the ccl Center of Chinese Linguistics,Peking University bcc Corpus from pre-Qin to modern times.Through the method of quantitative analysis, this paper combs and generalizes the evolution process of the monosyllabic noun form and class word "name transformation form" in modern Chinese, and draws the general path diagram of "name transformation form" through collation and induction.Through the analysis and summary of these "name transformation" paths,it can be theoretically explained from the perspective of cognitive linguistics. The scope of this article refers to the "Modern Chinese Dictionary(7th Edition)",which was compiled by the dictionary office of the Institute of Language Studies of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and published by the Commercial Press, and the monosyllabic noun-like words in the interpretation and the noun-meaning items before the adjective-meaning items are selected as the research object. This paper is divided into four chapters. The main purpose of the first chapter is to clarify several basic concepts and their differences or connections before the historical investigation of the research objects. The second chapter aims to make a detailed historical investigation on the semantic evolution of 12 monosyllabic words with both names and forms, and generalize the path of name transformation, and draw a famous figure transformation diagram. The third chapter is divided into two parts:on the one hand,it sums up two preconditions and bases for the occurrence of nominalization Transformation: the nature meaning contained in nouns is the semantic basis of nominalization transformation, and nouns as attributives provide the possibility for its transformation into adjectives;on the other hand,it sorts out and generalizes three main paths of nominalization Transformation:(1)transformation into adjectives through non Predicate Adjectives;(2)direct transformation into adjectives;(3)Some adjectives have been omitted. The fourth chapter is mainlyabout the motivation of noun transformation. This chapter uses the theory of cognitive linguistics to explain the phenomenon of noun transformation in modern Chinese from four aspects: "non categorization of noun","subjectivization","metaphor and metonymy","economic principle of language expression".Part of speech is a prototype category, its members are typical and atypical, its boundary is fuzzy. Therefore, some non typical members of the noun category on the boundary with the adjective category will have certain similarity with the typical members of the adjective category, which lays the cognitive foundation for the phenomenon of name transformation.Secondly, subjectivization, metaphor and metonymy provide conditions for name transformation. With the progress of society, the central meaning of vocabulary cannot meet the needs of daily communication,so People produce new meanings through metaphor and metonymy on the basis of existing cognition. Moreover, the economic principle of language makes people omit two syllable or multi syllable adjectives into monosyllabic adjectives, which is one of the reasons for monosyllabic adjectives. The above is the main research results of this paper. The detailed historical investigation of monosyllabic noun-form words is the innovation of this paper based on the previous research results, hoping to provide some reference for the monosyllabic noun-form conversion in the future.
