Research And Protection Of The Extant Stone Tablets In The Grottoes And Temples Of Tianlong Mountain

The inscription,as an important carrier of the recoding methods of the ancients,is both a culture relic and a document,which contains the lacking in some historical records and local records.In addition,based on the exiting historical data,the inscriptions can enrich the official records with new contents,and bring new research ideas and perspectives.Therefore,it has been widely concerned by the academic community since long time ago.Tianlong Mountain Grottoes were originally built during the Northern Wei Dynasty(534-550 AD),followed by Tianlong Mountain Temple.After more than 500 years of excavation and improvement in the Northern Qi,Sui and Tang,and Ming and Qing Dynasties,Tianlong Mountain Grottoes and temple gradually formed,which contain rich historical information and religious ideas.Nowadays,the research on Tianlong Mountain mainly focuses on the architecture and statues of the grottoes and temples.The content of the inscriptions is limited and the protection approaches are lacking.Among the existing11 inscriptions,most of them are weathered and damaged,and the text is hard to read.Therefore,the author comprehensively sorted the inscriptions,cleared out the historical context and characteristics of the development and evolution of the grottoes and temples,which provided some references for researching on the historical changes of that area,the spread of Buddhism,and ethnic integration.Based on the previous researches,this article studies the existing types of inscriptions in Tianlong Mountain Grottoes and Temples in Chapter 3.According to the content of the inscriptions and the role of the monuments,it summarizes with ways of documentary and appreciating virtues.It also witnesses the gradual popularization of Tianlong Mountain from royal architecture according to the change of the inscription system of the monuments.Furthermore,in the fourth chapter,it examines the characters of the only two existing inscriptions in the grottoes Sui Jing Yang’s Eulogium on Statue Making,Da Tang Wubu General ’ s Records of Achievements,and reflected the related historical and social phenomena.It attempts to explore the relationship between the surnames of the characters in the Sui Jing Yang’s Eulogium on Statue Making and the source of official positions,to know that the bond of Sui Dynasty Buddhism Group is more religious.By comparing with the blood ties of the Northern Dynasty Buddhism Group,it is confirmed that under the background of the Northern Zhou Wu Emperor destroyed Buddhism and Sui Wen Emperor’s resurrection of the Buddhism,Buddhism spread throughout the country and various ethnic groups.In Da Tang Wubu General ’ s Records of Achievements,the research on the identity of the main character and the career,marriage and religions of the Baekje immigrants after entering Tang Dynasty is to confirm that the main character was not from Wa but the Baekje nobility.It also reveals that after the Baekje immigrants entered the Tang Dynasty,religious beliefs were gradually integrated into the big Chinese family under the influence of Buddhist environment and secularism.Last but not least,in Chapter 5,it analyzes the status of the protection of the inscriptions in Tianlong Mountain Grottoes and Temples,judges their rationality,and put forward suggestions on the protection of the inscriptions combining with the condition of the inscriptions themselves and new technologies.I hope it can provide some references for the protection of the inscriptions in Tianlong Mountain Grottoes and Temples.
