Fear of Missing Out(known as FoMO)is a sub-type of anxiety that has been noticed in the past ten years. It is a kind of worry or fear, fearing of missing an opportunity for interpersonal interaction, novel experiences or some beneficial events. The cognitive model of anxiety posit that the negative beliefs of anxious individuals will affect their interpretation of ambiguous situations.Due to the existence of threat interpretation bias, anxious individuals cannot ignore the potential threat cues in the environment. Therefore, compared with low anxious individuals, individuals with high anxiety are more likely to take a threatening interpretation of ambiguous situations, which will cause a series of concerns and affect the behavior of individuals.A large number of studies have confirmed that the threat interpretation bias is related to various anxiety and emotional disorders. However, there is little literature at home and abroad to explore the features of interpretation bias of individuals with FoMO.This thesis adopted the Trait-State Fear of Missing Out scale to select 67 experimental subjects from 518 participants in two universities in Province, aiming to explore the features of off-line interpretation bias and on-line interpretation in college students with high and low FoMO levels through Interpretation Bias Questionnaire,Beck Depression Inventory,Beck Anxiety Inventory and WASP paradigm. The findings are as follows:(1)In the ambiguous social context, groups of different FoMO levels had significant differences between the positive and negative interpretations(p<0.001),no differences in neutral interpretation(p>0.05).(2)In the ambiguous social context, the negative interpretation score of individuals with high FoMO was significantly higher than the positive interpretation score(p<0.01),the neutral interpretation score was significantly higher than the positive interpretation score(p<0.01),there was no significant difference between the negative interpretation score and the neutral interpretation scores(p>0.05).The positive and neutral interpretation score of individuals with low FoMO was significantly higher than the negative interpretation score(p<0.001),there was no significant difference between the positive interpretation score and the neutral interpretation scores(p>0.05).(3)In the ambiguous non-social context, groups of different FoMO levels hadsignificant differences in negative interpretation(p<0.001),no differences in the positive interpretation and the neutral interpretation(p>0.05).(4)In the ambiguous non-social context, the positive and neutral interpretation score of individuals with high FoMO were significantly higher than their negative interpretation score(p<0.001),and there was no significant difference between the positive interpretation score and the neutral interpretation score of individuals with high FoMO(p>0.05).The positive and neutral interpretation score of individuals with low FoMO were significantly higher than their negative interpretation score(p<0.001),and the neutral interpretation score of individuals with low FoMO were significantly higher than their positive interpretation score(p<0.01).(5)In the ambiguous social context, compared with individuals with low FoMO,individuals with high FoMO had significantly higher approval rates on the threat interpretation(p<0.001)and lower approval rates on the benign interpretation(p<0.001).(6)In the ambiguous social context, compared with individuals with low FoMO,individuals with high FoMO had significantly higher approval rates on the threat interpretation(p<0.001),and groups of different FoMO level had no differences in the approval rates of the benign interpretation(p>0.05).(7)In the ambiguous social context, compared with individuals with low FoMO,individuals with high FoMO was significantly slower to accept benign interpretations(p<0.001)and refuse threat interpretations(p<0.05).The benign rejection and threat acceptance response was not significant in individuals with high FoMO(p>0.05).In the ambiguous non-social contexts, individuals with different FoMO level did not differ significantly in response time(p>0.05).In sum, this study can draw the following conclusions: In the ambiguous social context, individuals with high FoMO had a negative off-line and on-line interpretation bias and also lacked of positive interpretations. In the ambiguous non-social context, compared with individuals with low FoMO,individuals with high FoMO have more threat interpretation;but they have more positive interpretation than negative interpretation.
