A Study On The Female Image In The Work War And Peace

Women have an irreplaceable role in human life.Female images are also a crucial motif in literary works.Russian critical realist writer Leo Tolstoy has always paid attention to female images and issues in his works.War and Peace is his first masterpiece,praised as one of the greatest novels in the history of human art.The novel eulogizes the Russian people's love of peace and bravery and reproduces the magnificent picture of social and historical life of its time.It also utilizes realism to shape many different and vibrant female images,to express the author's exploration for the future of the Russian social unrest,the call for human nature and the desire for the moral perfection.Based on the text analysis,this thesis centers on Natasha and Maria and combines female figures including Helen,Lisa,and Sonya as research objects,analyzes the characteristics of the above female figures,and eventually explores Tolstoy's view of women.The introduction mainly introduces the research purpose,significance,domestic and foreign research backgrounds,thesis structure,research methods and innovations of this topic.The first chapter discusses the classical features of War and Peace and elaborates on the epic structure and vivid characters.The second chapter mainly analyzes the five female images in War and Peace from four aspects: appearance,behavior,personality and fate of the characters,in order to expound their internal qualities,and compare and analyze the respective characteristics of female characters.The third chapter analyzes the outcomes and differences of female images under different personalities,and explores Tolstoy's views on female aesthetics,female happiness and female values in War and Peace,and reveals the author's value orientation,family thoughts and moral code.In the concluding part of the thesis,this paper holds that the ideal female image created by Tolstoy in War and Peace bears the characteristics of inner beauty,virtuous wife and loving mother,and patriotic dedication.Tolstoy's view of women not only was in line with the social concept at that time,but also continues to be enlightening to the current era,with certain limitations as well.
