The object of this report is the translation of a travel brochure Impression of Alxa entrusted by a domestic travel company. This travel brochure covers local customs and tourist attractions of Alxa League in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, and has a variety of text styles. For example, the passage introducing the Eribugai grand canyon presents prose style, and the chapter introducing the Mongolian races displays information text style. This report sorts out the features of the source text from three dimensions:(1)the lexical level mainly involves a large number of proper nouns and culture-loaded words;(2)the syntactic level contains long sentences with rich information and complex elements,as well as parallel sentences that describe scenery and express emotions;(3)the textual level manifests prominent literary characteristics of this text and words and phrases with literary connotation throughout the text.Communicative Translation is one of the two translation approaches proposed by Peter Newmark. It aims to make the target readers obtain the same effect as the original readers.Translators have greater freedom in Communicative Translation to render the original text, adjust style, eliminate ambiguity, and even correct errors of the original text.In translation practice, the translator utilizes the Communicative Translation as the basic strategy and tries to convey the information and characteristics of the original text accurately and fluently.Practice proves that it is a proper translation strategy to use Communicative Translation to guide the translation of tourism texts. This report is divided into five chapters. The first chapter introduces the background, process, purpose and significance of the translation project. The second chapter analyzes the linguistic features of the original text at the level of vocabulary, sentences and text. The third chapter introduces Communicative Translation method on which this report is based, and discusses the feasibility of this method in tourism texts translation. The fourth chapter presents the difficulties encountered by the author in the translation process and corresponding solutions through case analysis. At the lexical level, the translator utilizes explanation and paraphrase to tackle special proper nouns and culture-loaded words that reflect the characteristics of ethnic culture;at the syntactic level, for long and parallel sentences, the translator uses reconstruction and omission;at the textual level, the translator adopts simplification to deal with theliterariness of the source text, and for certain paragraphs with obvious tourism publicity function, the translator uses flexible translation methods and highlights the publicity effect of the source text to make the translation smoother, clearer, and consistent with the target language. The fifth chapter summarizes the major findings, limitations and suggestions of this report.
