This thesis is based on the application of Catford’s translation shift theory in the translation of English tourism texts into Chinese.Catford’s translation shift theory divides translation into level shift and category shift.And category shift includes structure shift,class shift,unit shift and intra-system shift.This theory has a detailed classification of translation shift and focuses on the analysis of the translation at the sentence level,making it can be well applied to the actual sentence analysis.The tourism text should not only objectively and practically describe the features of tourist attractions and the corresponding environmental protection measures,but also arouse people’s yearning for tourism and people’s environmental protection awareness.Therefore,its sentences are both objective and realistic with subjective colors.The above characteristics require that the translation can accurately describe the text and achieve the effect of publicity for adventure tourism and environmental protection at the same time.The first chapter firstly introduces the English discourse Adventure Tourism--Environmental Impacts and Management.In the second chapter,the author introduced the whole translating process in detail,including the background information before translation,the tourism terms and complex sentence during the translation,and the revise after translation.In the third chapter of this translation practice report,some important translation theories at home and abroad are summarized,with emphasis on Catford’s translation shift and the comments at home and abroad on his translation theory.In the fourth chapter,the author made deepen and thorough analysis of the application of each translation shifts by choosing some representative sentences from Adventure Tourism--Environmental Impacts and Management.With regard to level shift,the shift of tense and number is analyzed.With regard to category shift,it is analyzed from three categories,namely,with regard to structural shift,it analyzes the shift of passive sentences into active sentences and attributive clauses;With regard to class shift,it analyzes the shift into nouns and verbs.With regard to unit shift,the shift of words into phrases or sentences is analyzed.In the fifth chapter,the report summarizes the whole translation process,and draws the experience for future translators to learn from.
