In recent years,with the continuous development of artificial intelligence,big data,cloud computing,Internet of things and other emerging technologies,more and more national builders began to think about the new way to develop production and bring about prosperous economy,then the concept of "Smart City" was proposed."Smart City" aims to optimize and utilize limited resources to support the cities' economic growth and sustainable development in the process of urbanization by smart means and measures.This translation practice selected the first chapter of the book Smart Cities of Today and Tomorrow.Through the translation and analysis of the selected text,the author has acquired new understanding and thinking on the key elements needed for the design and construction of smart cities.This report consists of the following four parts: task introduction,description of translation process,cases analysis,summary of translation practice.The case analysis is the key part of this report.In terms of vocabulary,the author used Catford's theory of "shift" to analyze translation difficulties.In the aspect of syntax,the author analyzed and solved the typical problems in the process of translation,such as adjusting sentence structure,converting passive voice into active voice,dividing long sentences into short sentences,etc.In addition,the author also analyzed and summarized the translation of dashes.Finally,the key points and translation experience were summarized.Through this translation practice,the author has accumulated a lot of valuable experience and gained improvement in translation.It is hoped that it can provide some reference for the translators of scientific papers.
