The research will focus on the functional transfer and the translation quality of legislative texts by comparing two Chinese translations of the German copyright act.As the theoretical basis the function-oriented theories including Nida's functional equivalence,Vermeer's Skopos theory and ?ar?evi?'s theory on legal translation will be introduced.Through the corpus-based approach the words, phrases or grammatical structures of certain importance in conveying information will be screened out.Based on the primary research the examples to be analyzed are classified into culture-,lawand language-specific categories, while the translation quality will be examined under these three aspects correspondingly with legal meanings as anchor point and language features of the Chinese copyright act as reference.Discussions and suggestions concerning translation strategies and methods of the German copyright act will be made according to the research results.Furthermore,it could be concluded that more emphasis must be laid on an interdisciplinary education in language and law studies in order to rationally solve the problems resulting from differences between law systems and achieve a successful transfer in legislative translation.
