Located in the hinterland of Eurasia,DongTianShan is the key to east-west transportation and ancient cultural exchanges, and. It is also an important region where the ancient husbandry culture and grassland civilization formed and developed in early period.after all,DongTianshan area is widely divided, the natural environment between the small regions is different, its internal cultural appearance has both commonness and Individuality. As an important part of DongTianshan north region, prehistoric archaeological remains of the Iwu basin are rarely known by scholars because of the lack of archaeological work.In view of this, this paper not only publishes the detailed investigation data of Kuola site, the largest known ancient settlement in the Iwu basin, but also makes a preliminary study on the related issues of settlement archaeology. The site is located in the grassland area of the DongTianshan north region of the Karrik Mountains in Yiwu County, and has been confirmed by a comprehensive and detailed investigation as the preserved intact, clearly structured and largest ancient settlement site in north region Karrik. The number of standing stone tombs in the ruins, whether large-scale or shaped,is the largest in DongTianShan area, and the site is of high research value. After that, this paper uses the analysis method of cultural factors to compare Kuola site with other excavated sites in the DongTianShan area, and then combined with C14dating data and GIS analysis technology to divide the sites into early period and late period, two parts. In addition,a brief analysis is made on the factors of site selection, morphological characteristics and related problems reflected in the two periods of settlement, which concludes that the population in the two periods of settlement has great differences in social conditions,so there is a great possibility for different groups. Finally, this paper compares the site with the prehistoric settlement characteristics of the whole Iwu River basin, and combines the previous research results to conclude that the evolution process of prehistoric settlement in the Iwu River basin can be roughly divided into three stages, and the kuola site has an important position in this process. The follow-up excavation and research on the ruins of Kuola will provide important clues to explore the cultural outlook and settlement evolution of the whole DongTianShan region in the 1000 BC.
