The Introduction And Development Of Settlement Archaeology In China

Now settlement archaeology is one of the most important archaeological research methodology, which has influenced domestic archaeological greatly. Its rise, development and the new stage of domestic archaeological associated closely together, its development process has distinct characteristics. The existing research mainly focuses on method, technology of study and practice, there is relatively little concern on its development process, this paper tries to discuss and analyze from this angle.The paper studies the course and introduction of settlement archaeology in China, and the important phenomena includes:(1) the theory's introduction of background and content;(2) the attention from both home and abroad;(3) the development process of from less attention to promoting and the peak;(4) the exploration and improvement of method and technology;(5) the development process of key events and the point of time. Through the investigations and analysis of all development course, I got the following results.1. In1984the theory was introduced because of the open prevailing academic, and it had no settlement archaeology theory and research of domestic demand in China.2. Domestic study on settlement archaeology mainly stems from the technical level of demand, which objectively completed grafting of settlement archaeology and domestic information. After grafting, settlement archaeology developed fast pushed by archaeological practice, especially in civilization origin.3. Pushed by national major projects and a series of practical project, settlement archaeology won the further development, and become an important archaeological research methodology.4. The needs of Academic accumulation and transition during the development of the fundamental effect in domestic settlement archaeology are obvious, but it is difficult to obtain sufficient argumentation from the aspect of developed course. Relatively the function of country's role is superior to that of accumulation and transformation. This phenomenon is the result of the comprehensive factors and the characteristics of China's archaeological research.5. Although settlement archaeology research mainly is the technology application domestically, it required multiple theory, more delicate and more comprehensive research in China, which effected the traditional theoretical basis and archaeological technology. With the deep related theoretical discussion and the use of technology method, it will gradually promote the domestic archaeology to the development of theory diversification, method systematization, technology internationalization.
