The "Mandarin Fever" is heating up.But during the process of Chinese learning, grammar has become their obstacle,in other words,it's hard to learn the fundamental Chinese and even harder to learn it well. How to solve the grammar problems and to better promote Chinese learning has always been problems in academic fields.Born in development of distance education,MOOC,with its open, shared and interactive characteristics, provides a good autonomous learning platform.Autonomous learning effect has close relations with the learners' motivation.Unfortunately, relatively few study has been done in terms of motivation on MOOC.This study is based on Trembley & Gardner's Extended Motivation Theory and selects ‘Intermediate Chinese Grammar',using questionnaire, interview and test to do a tracking survey of five learners. The results show that:(1)Language attitude will affect learners' motivation;(2)The learners who discover more value of the lessons are more motivated to learn and exhibit more focused and persistent learning behaviors.(3)The characteristics of the MOOC,the teachers' teaching methods, the stability of the website platform, the feedback of the homework, the interactive platform of MOOC will influence the learners' motivation.(4)Less motivated learners are easily to give up learning due to the effects of the online environment.(5)The design of MOOC needs to take into account the learners' individual needs.(6)Learners need to be guided to use interactive platforms.(7)The effectiveness of homework feedback needs to be improved. The findings will improve MOOC teaching and design and help learners to improve the ability of autonomous learning. This research offers some implications related to the course designers, the network platform builders and the MOOC learners. But it is an exploratory research and the findings need to be studied further.
