At present, with the gradual enhancement of cultural exchanges among countries, foreign social science texts are constantly translated into Chinese.Due to the differences between Chinese and English, the fluency and readability of the target texts still need to be studied. The application of George Steiner's Hermeneutics translation theory is analyzed in translation practice based on the excerpts from Famous Affinities of History—Volume 1 the Romance of Devotion.George·Steiner put forward four steps of translation, which are trust, aggression, incorporation and compensation.First of all, trust is to believe that the original work is valuable.Secondly, due to different historical background, language features and thinking patterns,it is necessary to invade the original texts during translation.Thirdly,in the incorporation stage, the meaning and form of the original language should be implanted into the target language as much as possible. Finally, the information of the original text is inevitably omitted in the translation process, thus, the target text is compensated by addition, omission, and annotation to balance the information between the original text and the target text.In order to be faithful to the original text, the fluency and readability of the translated text can be guaranteed by using translation techniques such as restructuring, conversion of active and passive voice to conform to the thinking patterns and the expression habits of the target readers.By theory application,it can be found that Hermeneutics translation theory plays an effective role in guiding the translation of social science texts and leads further practice in applying some key techniques, assuring a sensible conveying of the thoughts and ideas of the source text and provides some reference for future translation of similar texts.Figure 0;Table 1;Reference 30...
