Composite art occupies an extremely important position in Black's creative career.Taking 1783 as the time cutoff, his artistic creation changed from more paintings designed for others to himself poetry and painting composite art. After 1783,The composite art of poetry and painting is represented by "Illuminated Books".The focus of these composite art of poetry and painting can be divided according to the node of 1796,which can be divided into the theme of revolutionary anti-rational in the early period and the theme of religious salvation in the later stage of creation.Although the emphasis of his composite art is different, this also reflects the maturity of Black 's thought, that is,the purpose of anti-rationality is to eliminate the restraint of reason on people in the old world, completely liberate human emotions, and thus make humans rely on creativity, imagination, and other factors to enter heaven and gain religious salvation.Argument about the relationship between poetry and painting is the basic issue of explaining Blake's composite art.Inspired by Frye and Mitchell. After observation and interpretation,The author believe that the "poetry-painting" syncopation and the "poetry-painting" counterpoint actually exist at the same time in Black's composite art, which represents Blake has two typical creative tendencies.Comparing the artistic effects of these two "poem-painting" relationships,it can be found that the "poem-painting" syncopation makes its composite art change in its horizontal relationship rather than text-based works. The overall rhythm of the work has special elasticity and tension by breaking the strong and weak relationship between the old relationship of text and image;the “poem-painting” counterpoint is to design the two together in the vertical direction.Using the deep relationship between poetry and pictures to achieve mutual penetration between text and image to break the limitations of each single medium itself, and achieve the effect of multiplying the meaning of poetry. The design of these two "poem-painting" relationships finally formed Black 's own poetic system, which includes the mutual construction of textual imagery and textualization, the generation of graphics and dynamic composition, and the unity of time and space. This poetic system is a rare special feature in the history of Western art,but it is in harmony with the purpose of "there is painting in poetry and poetry in painting"(Su Shi language)advocated by the Chinese literati painting tradition. The "Poetry-Painting" counterpoint and Chinese poetry and Chinese painting "Andersstreben" are aimed at getting out of poetry and painting itself, breaking the boundaries of time and space. His preference of graphics is the same as that of classical Chinese literati paintings that emphasized calligraphy. They gave up accurate representation of reality, and used the techniques of lines and blooming and the power of imagination to express their personal subjective emotions or spiritual images. However,it should be noted that Black 's composite art is different from Chinese literati painting after all.Black 's composite art has not shaken off the powerful influence of western narrative traditions. The subjectivity of the objective things he advocates has large difference with the natural subject-object integration, the unity of heaven and human,in the classical Chinese lyric tradition. We might as well consider it as an experimental attempt by Black to break through the tradition of treating poetry and painting as sister arts since the western modern times. From the sprout of art in the initial period of oral civilization in Europe,to the surging of post-modernist artistic trends,to the current background of the rise of cross-media art,Black 's composite art is a unique but not lonely art in the history of Western art There are many sympathizers following Blake.
