With the growing consciousness of developing water sports, more and more Chinese people are going in for surfing. However,China lags behind other countries in surfing because of its late start.Besides, there are very few guiding books about surfing published in China. An excerpt of The Girl's Guide to Surfing is,therefore, chosen to popularize surfing knowledge. This text is a surfing text to enable readers to learn something about surfing.Guided by the Skopos Theory, the translation should not only be faithful to the source text, but also be concise and interesting, which better attracts the readers. In the process of translation, the main translation difficulties lie in two aspects.First,in terms of vocabulary,it is extremely difficult to translate some professional terms without corresponding Chinese expressions. In addition, due to the different expressions in Chinese and English, there is redundancy in terms of translation. Therefore, the lexical level is analyzed from two aspects: technical terms and common words.Technical terms are divided into standardized technical terms and non-standardized technical terms. In translating common words, the methods adopted are extension of meaning, conversion, omission and addition.Second,in terms of syntax, some expressions of the source text are too long and are different from Chinese on voice. Therefore, four methods-translation in the original order, word order shift, voice conversion and division are adopted to deal with this.Guided by the Skopos Theory, the above translation methods help to make the translation clear and understandable to the readers without deviating from the original text.It is hoped that the analysis and summary of this translation practice report can provide some reference for future translation of surfing texts.
