English,as the most important message carrier,has been one of the most widelyused language.Meanwhile,the rapid development of information technology makes globalization more popular,which even highlights the significance of English.As for English learners,reading is not only the main tool to acquire knowledge,but also the approach to get information.Hence reading is a required language skill for English learners and English reading teaching is crucial in classroom teaching.However,there are some problems to be settled about the English reading teaching in senior high school in our country.From the teaching part,most teachers adopt the traditional teaching method,ignoring students' reading interest without paying attention to developing students' thinking ability and their learning strategies.From the learning aspect,students show no initiative to reading and lack relevant reading strategies.Although relevant researches have become a great concern,the teaching method of reading is far from satisfactory and students don't get involved in the activities actively.PAD class,an interactive teaching approach,aimed to develop students' learning ability,which is put forward by Zhang Xuexin from Fudan University in 2014.It creatively combines teachers,students,the teaching content as well as teaching methods and divides the class into two parts.In other words,a half is for teachers' presentation while the rest is for students to assimilate and discuss what they have learned.PAD class,has been widely-used in various subjects of universities and has got many achievements,but not in the reading teaching of senior high schools.Based on the current situations of reading teaching,this paper applies PAD class to the reading teaching of senior high to explore the detailed usage of PAD class in the reading teaching of senior high and aims to inspire students' reading interest,boost their subjective initiative,enhance their reading abilities.Besides,the paper attempts to provide a more effective teaching model of reading.The participants of the study come from Senior Two of one of Anhui high schools,with Class 21 as the experimental group and Class 26 the control group.Throughout the experiment,PAD class is adopted inClass 21 and traditional teaching method in Class 26.Test paper,questionnaire and interview are also used to analyze and compare the results with SPSS.According to the results,the scores of the experimental group rise from 19.67 to 22.69 while the control group is from 19.60 to 20.48.In addition,students in the experimental group use more reading strategies,and show more subjective initiative,cooperation as well as classroom participation.
