| The teaching of English reading plays an important role in the whole English teaching.In senior high school,the main task of English reading teaching is to improve students’ reading ability.Therefore,the teaching of English reading has received extensive attention from teachers and learners.However,there are many problems in practical English reading teaching.Under the influence of the traditional teaching method-grammatical translation method,the teaching English reading in some rural senior high schools is still a process about simply decoding articles one by one.Students are not cultivated to master language knowledge,accumulate cultural background knowledge and grasp the text overall.In addition,students’ reading skills and strategies have not been developed.For a long time,students have low interest,low reading efficiency and non-ideal reading effect in reading.As one of the important theories of English reading,schema theory has a general guiding effect on reading teaching.Since it was proposed,it has been quickly applied to guide the teaching of English reading.In English reading teaching,making full use of the function of schemata to help students activate language schema,enrich content schema and perfect formal schema can improve students’ reading interest,cultivate students’ reading skills and strategies and improve students’ reading efficiency and reading effect.In view of this,the author applies the schema theory to guide the teaching of English reading to explore an English reading teaching model based on the schema theory and conducts a teaching action research to verify the effectiveness of this teaching model.The research questions are as follows:1.In what aspects does schema theory contribute to improving reading teaching effect?2.How does the schema theory are applied to improve reading teaching effect more effectively ?This study was carried out in a rural senior high school in Luodian County,Guizhou Province.From Bian Yang Middle School,50 students in Class(12)grade 2 were chosen as the subjects of the study.The whole teaching action research lasted for more than four months.In the teaching process,the author carried out reading teaching based on the teaching model of schema theory and constantly made reflection to adjust and improve the teaching action research.The data of reading tests and questionnaires of this teaching action research were comprehensively analyzed to get research results.Then students’ interview was analyzed to make supplement to the above results.Finally,the results of the teaching action research were obtained.The results show that the teaching model of English reading based on schema theory is effective.Students’ reading interest and confidence have been improved,students’ reading skills and strategies have been cultivated,students’ reading grade has been improved and students’ schema awareness has been improved.This means that their reading efficiency and reading effect are obvious increasing.What’s more,the schema theory can be better used to guide the teaching of English reading by combining with PWP reading teaching model to achieve the above results and improve the teaching quality. |
