A Study On The Semantic Evolution From Body Action Verbs To Mental Verbs

Verb is an important part of speech in language.There are many achievements in the study of verbs.Body action verb is an important branch of verb parts of speech and the most basic and important verb.In recent years,cognitive linguists have investigated the evolution of verbs from a cognitive perspective.Under the influence of cognitive linguistics,Chinese scholars have paid more and more attention to the evolution of body action verbs.Through the semantic investigation of body action verbs in Chinese,it is found that there is a semantic evolution pattern of "body action verbs > psychological verbs" in Chinese.But the path of evolution and the semantics of the output are not the same.The article is divided into three chapters.The first part is the introduction,which summarizes the research results of domestic and foreign scholars on the semantic evolution of verbs,summarizes the research status of the theoretical issues of semantic evolution,and summarizes the definition,classification and research status of psychological verbs and physical behavior verbs.The research content,significance,theory and method of this paper are put forward.In the second chapter,first of all,the body action verbs that have evolved psychological meaning are divided into four periods: ancient,middle ancient,modern and contemporary.We have chosen the words "look up to","tilt","reach","Sui","disobey","retreat","meet","fit","inferior","go","stride across","tend","practice","catch up","path","trace","pull","suppress","lift","touch","shoot","bend","put","serve" and "support" as the research objects,and investigated the evolution path of their evolution into psychological verbs.Secondly,we choose words from Chinese dialects to confirm this evolution path.We choose nine words as the study object,which are "prick","embrace","hug","press","help","approve","support","Ken" and "hold".We find that these body action verbs do not extend psychological meaning in written language,but they have psychological verb meaning in dialects.In the third chapter,the author explains the evolution reason and mechanism of "body action verbs > psychological verbs".It holds that the main causes of evolution are subjectivization,metaphor and metonymy.The evolution mechanism is mainly analogy and expansion.
