The Study Of The Semantic Evolution Of Visual Verbs To Psychological Verbs

Visual verbs has always been the hot spot of the study of verbs,with many research results achieved.In recent years,foreign scholars have researched on it from the perspective of cognitive linguistics,and have found that visual meaning is mapping the psychological category,thus domestic scholars have also focused on the semantic evolution path of visual verbs.Through diachronic investigation of Chinese,the author found that the semantic evolution mode of "visual verbs>psychological verb" exists in Chinese.The verb semantics has evolved from concrete to abstract,and the path is obvious.In introduction,the author summarizes the schools and important theories of the semantic evolution path,research achievements on the grammaticalization and metaphor of of visual verbs,reviewes the definition and classification of psychological verbs,and puts forward the research goal,significance,methods,and theories of this thesis.In the second chapter,the author diachronically investigated a large number of visual verbs which developed from the psychological verbs,summed up the evolution of the path from the visual verbs to psychological verbs.In the first section,this path is divided into four periods of ancient,medieval and moder and 15 visual words which means"see" are selected to analyze the process and law of its semantic evolution.In the third section,the author investingated the path from the modern Chinese dialect.In this section,the author mainly discussed another 11 dialects with the meaning of "see" and concluded that psychological meanings are not found in the written form of these dialect words,but in the dialect.In the second chapter,the author divided psychological verbs into emotional,cognitive,and intentional ones.According to the different evolution to the psychological meaning,visual verbs are divided into three categories,whose characteristics and reasons of evolution have been respectively illustrated.Conclusions are as follows:1,the trend of evolution to cognitive psychological verbs is the most common,which means people’s vision and mind are most closely connected;2,those visual verb with the same basic meaning tend to have the same psychological verbs.The minority language in China and language materials abroad have been used for analysis.In the fourth chapter,the author explained the diachronic evolution from"visual verbs"to "psychological verb" from the perspective of cognitive theory,holding that the change from the physical "vision" to the psychological"cognition","emotion"and " desire" is the result of metaphor and subjectivity,and tried to use relevant cognitive semantics theory to explain it.
