Multi-functional Semantics Of Onomatopoeia In Panjin Dialect Of Liaoning Province

Onomatopoeic words in Panjin dialect of Liaoning province have many other functions besides denoting sound meaning.From the research on the semantic extension of onomatopoeia words in Panjin dialect,we can see the characteristics of the semantic evolution of onomatopoeia words,and also investigate the feasibility of the semantic sequence of onomatopoeia words from the perspective of typology.Therefore,through field investigation,this paper makes a detailed description and analysis of the usage of onomatopoeia in Panjin dialect in combination with relevant literature,then deduces the sequences and causes of the semantic changes of onomatopoeia in Panjin dialect according to the grammaticalization theory,and deeply analyzes the relationship between the meaning of voice and other meaning by semantic map.On this basis,this paper also makes a comparison and research on the usage of the multi-function semantics of onomatopoeia in mandarin,other dialects and foreign languages,in order to find out the possible language universals and the characteristics of Panjin dialect onomatopoeia in the evolution process of onomatopoeia.In addition to the introduction and conclusion,the full thesis is divided into the following six chapters:The second chapter is a general introduction of onomatopoeic wordsin Panjin dialect,which introduces the morphological characteristics and the syntactic-semantics functions of onomatopoeic words.This chapter also explains the situation that there is a reduction in the quantity of retroflex in the onomatopoeia of Panjin dialect,and describes the phenomenon of tone change in the semantic evolution of onomatopoeia,as well as the grammatical tone change in the use of onomatopoeia.From chapter three to chapter five,the usage of onomatopoeia in Panjin dialect is introduced respectively.Onomatopoeia can be used for express the manner,iteration,duration,intensity and characteristic.In the introduction,the meanings and combinative capabilities of the onomatopoeia words with this usage are illustrated and briefly analyzed.Chapter six explains the motivation and evolution of the multi-function semantics of the onomatopoeia of Panjin dialect.The evolution motivation is mainly analyzed from the following five aspects:metonymy mechanism,reduplication,its own sound characteristics,syntactic function and linguistic subjectivity.The way of multi-function semantic evolution of onomatopoeia reduplication is basically to follow the following directions:After analyzing the usage of Panjin dialect onomatopoeia,thischapter constructs the semantic map of Panjin dialect onomatopoeia and further discusses the evolution of sound meaning.In chapter seven,through cross-language comparison and analysis,the characteristics of the multi-functional semantic usage of onomatopoeic words in Panjin dialect and their similarity with mandarin,other languages or dialects are investigated.This chapter makes clear that the meaning of sound shows the commonness of language when it means the meaning of action and the meaning of thing;In the process of meaning evolution of onomatopoeia,reduplication is an important grammatical form.The intensity meaning and characteristic meaning of onomatopoeia in Panjin dialect have their own characteristics.
