German psychologist Ebbinghaus' s famous Forgetting Curve shows that if we don't have a timely review after learning,less than half of what we have learned will be forgotten after class.A week later,only one fifth or so remains.If we want to remember knowledge more firmly and keep it in mind for a longer time,taking notes is a very effective way.What's worth noting is that the traditional note-taking method only pays attention to the process of recording.One usually focuses on keeping up with the teacher,and ignores the reprocessing of the information after taking notes.To make the most out of the notes,Dr.Walter Pauk invented Cornell Note-taking System,which combines recording,studying,reviewing,thinking,and using.It is a very effective method of taking notes.Grammar is a very important part of English learning and teaching.However,the results of surveys show that students are bored with knowledge of English grammar,and they cannot master the grammar knowledge systematically.To fully reflect the effectiveness of Cornell Note-taking System,this research takes the teaching of English grammar in high school as the starting point,and applies Cornell Note-taking System to practical teaching.In this study,110 grade one students from two classes of the senior high school where the author works were invited as the research object to conduct comparative teaching research.One class was taught according to ordinary notes,while the other class was taught according to Cornell Note-taking System.Students of the two classes took pretests before the comparative teaching to find out whether there is a significant difference in the learning of English grammar between the two classes.A post-testing was taken after comparative teaching to find out the degree to which Cornell Note-taking System can improve the quality of teaching.At the same time,the author also asked students from the two classes to complete a questionnaire and interviewed teacher and student representatives.The purpose is to find out the degree to which Cornell Note-taking System can improve the quality of teaching from multiple aspects,mainly including students' attitude,academic performance,learning situation and application suggestions.Through the analysis of SPSS statistical software,we canget more objective and scientific data support.By summarizing the interview and analyzing the results of test and questionnaire,this study has found that in practical teaching,Cornell note-taking system can bring it's advantage into full play.It can help students improve their enthusiasm of learning grammar and their ability to apply English grammar.In conclusion,the application of Cornell note-taking system can enhance the quality of English grammar teaching to a certain extent.
