| Note-taking is one of the most commonly used English learning strategies in senior high schools.The level of note-taking will affect students’ listening style and learning quality.Among the numerous studies on English class notes,the application of the Cornell Note-taking System in teaching has been increasing in recent years.However,the total number of studies is still small,mainly applied research,but few investigation studies and the investigation studies on the application status of high school students are even less.Based on the survey of senior high school students in Nanning No.33 Middle School,this study investigated and analyzed the application of the Cornell Note-taking System in senior high school English class from five aspects: students’ attitude towards note-taking,function,techniques,reviewing and instruction.The research method combines qualitative and quantitative methods,and the research tools are questionnaire survey and interview.A total of 224 valid answers were collected,and six students and six teachers were selected for the interview.This thesis mainly studies three questions:(1)What is the current situation of applying the Cornell Note-taking System in the English class of students in No.33 Middle School?(2)Are there any differences between male students and female students in the use of the Cornell Note-taking System in No.33 Middle School? If yes,what are the differences?(3)What difficulties do students have in taking notes using the Cornell Note-taking System?By analyzing the data collected by questionnaire and interview,this thesis has the following findings:(1)The application of the Cornell Note-taking System in Nanning No.33 Middle school is average.Students have a very positive attitude towards English class notes and agree with the function of note-taking.Students,especially female students,get a better grasp of note-taking techniques.However,most students,especially male students,review their notes before the exam,and not all of them have received the instruction of the Cornell Note-taking System.(2)There are significant differences between male and female students in the two dimensions of reviewing and instruction of the Cornell Note-taking System.Female students perform better than male students.At the same time,there are no significant differences between male students and female students in the attitude,function and techniques of the Cornell Note-taking System.(3)When students use the Cornell Note-taking System,there are difficulties caused by their own reasons and difficulties caused by teachers.According to the above research results,the author provides some corresponding suggestions on the use and teaching of the Cornell Note-taking System from the perspective of students and teachers to help students develop a good habit of taking notes in English class,improving classroom efficiency,and enhancing their autonomous learning ability. |
