Research On The Political Participation Of Waiqi In Song Dynasty

Waiqi has always been a controversial group.In most dynasties,Waiqi was feared by the rulers because they used their status as relatives of the emperor to gain power and sometimes even threaten the rule of the dynasty.Waiqi of the Song dynasty were quite different from those of the previous dynasties.Under the strict system,they were not as strong and powerful as they had been since the Han dynasty and gradually lost power.In Song dynasty,the understanding of Waiqi changed and their family background became more complicated,but the officials were still the majority.With the increasing striction of the "law of treating the relatives of the empress of China",although Waiqi are restricted by many restrictions,they enjoy higher treatment than ordinary officials in economic treatment and daily life.To some extent,it makes up for the regret that the relatives' participation in politics is restricted.Through the study of Waiqi,this paper analyzes the status of Waiqi in the political group under the strict restrictions of the Song dynasty,the political activities Waiqi participated in,and their influence on the politics of the Song dynasty.Under the strict restrictions of the system,Waiqi were sent to serve as local officials.During their tenure,most of them were loyal to their posts and made certain contributions to politics,military affairs and diplomacy.The political participation of Waiqi is characterized by the positivity of the attitude,the relative simplicity of the way,the passivity and the simplicity of the motive.There are many reasons for this kind of characteristics,such as the Song dynasty's adherence to the "law of treating relatives of the empress of China",the perfect imperial examination system,the perfection of the Tai jian system,the influence of neo-confucianism,and the different demands of Song dynasties on military generals.During her tenure,Waiqi were usually able to conduct themselves in a standardized way,modest and self-disciplined,which made certain contributions to the politics of Song dynasty.Therefore,we should treat this situation with a correct attitude and not read too much into their behavior because of their special status.
