A Practice Report On Liaison-escort Interpreting At The Qingzhou International Conference On Land Use Management

Organized by HSS(Hanns Seidel Foundation),Qingzhou International Conference on Land Use Management held in Qingzhou,Shandong Province offers an opportunity for international communication.In the conference,scholars and researchers from more than 130 countries discussed the global warming challenge and its influences on the rural sustainable development and provided practical advice and experiences on putting overall land use management into practice to promote the rural development.The author selected the conference report as the practice material for the interpreting task and presented liaison-escort interpretation from English to Chinese or Chinese to English.This report has four parts including task introduction,task process,case analysis and task conclusion.Task background,task process and task aims are described in the task introduction.Task process includes two parts: pre-interpreting preparation,interpretation and evaluation.Guided by the “triangle model” of Interpretative Theory,the author explored the skills of conference liaison-escort interpretation in the case analysis.The author analyzed the key and difficult points in understanding,analyzing and representing and summarized interpreting skills such as word-order adjustment,word conversion and passive-voice translation.Experiences and disadvantages of this interpretation practice are concluded in the task conclusion.It is hoped that the report would be helpful for future study and the interpretation tasks of other interpreters.
